Overview
First Impressions
When I first walked up to Angel – Top Floor Double Studio, I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical — it’s tucked away on Sidney Grove, which honestly looks like just another residential street in Islington. But that’s actually part of its charm. This four-star place sits right in the heart of one of London‘s most authentic neighborhoods, and once you climb up to that top floor, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special.
The Space That Surprised Me
The studio itself — well, it’s exactly what it says on the tin, but executed way better than I expected. The room feels surprisingly spacious for London standards, and being on the top floor means you get these lovely slanted ceilings that somehow make everything feel cozy rather than cramped. There’s a proper kitchenette setup that’s actually functional (I made coffee and a decent breakfast), plus the bed area feels separate enough that you’re not sleeping next to your dirty dishes, if you know what I mean.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s where this place really shines — you’re literally a three-minute walk from Angel tube station, which I didn’t fully appreciate until I realized how easy it made getting anywhere in London. The neighborhood itself is brilliant for wandering around. Upper Street is right there with all its cafes and pubs, but Sidney Grove stays quiet enough that you can actually sleep at night. I spent half my mornings just walking down to Chapel Market, which locals use for proper shopping rather than tourist stuff.
The Details That Matter
What struck me most was how thoughtfully everything was set up. The shower pressure is excellent (honestly, this matters more than people admit), and there’s decent storage space — not always a given in London accommodations. The windows face the right direction so you get natural light without feeling like you’re in a fishbowl. Small thing, but they’ve got proper blackout curtains, which saved me from those brutal summer mornings when the sun comes up at 4:30.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in London, but it gets the fundamentals exactly right. You’re staying in a real neighborhood where actual Londoners live, the transport links are perfect, and the studio gives you just enough space to spread out without paying hotel prices for a proper suite. The 8.9 rating makes complete sense once you’re there — it’s one of those places that exceeds expectations rather than trying to impress you upfront. If you want to experience London like someone who actually lives here rather than just visiting, Angel – Top Floor Double Studio hits that sweet spot perfectly.

"Handy clean bijou top floor hasn’t"
Free parking outside in the courtyard. Not far from King’s Cross. Francesco was very responsive and replied very quickly. Great balcony.
What could be improved: Bed is a large single but there is also a chairbed to sleep on. Lots of steep steps - we were warned and not a problem as long as you know.

"Clean and comfortable for a single traveler. Location perfect for me"
Nice small clean double studio, what motivated me to choose this was the possibility for morning coffee on the wooden deck
What could be improved: Lot of stairs when hauling luggage up and down. The drains are becoming a bit slow.

"Peaceful, well equipped flat and a very kind host"
I stayed in Francesco’s flat for one month and everything was absolutely perfect! The apartment is beautifully organized, very clean, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. It’s located on the top floor, perfectly quiet, and has a spacious terrace that I really enjoyed.
Francesco was an exceptional host — always available, kind, and helpful whenever I needed anything. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Highly recommended!
What could be improved: There here's really nothing to complain about, everything exceeded my expectations

"Cozy, spotless city apt with spacious deck."
Apt had everything you could want for a comfortable stay. The deck was very spacious and everything was perfectly clean. Nicely appointed and felt newly redone. Patio doors allowed nice fresh air flow.
What could be improved: Shower was tight if you are larger.

"excellent host excellent flat"
Firstly Francesco was a wonderful host by responding to all my messages and answering my phone calls immediately. He was super friendly and very helpful. The flat, albeit small was really lovely and modern with an outside roof garden. Everything I needed was available including free parking and the price was very reasonable indeed for London. The location was very peaceful and the self check process was very easy and I would not hesitate to stay here the next time I visit London. Thanks a lot Francesco
What could be improved: there are stairs leading up to this flat but I have absolutely no complaints at all

"Overall, a great value for the price. I'd recommend it, especially in cooler seasons."
I really liked the location – it's very convenient, close to all types of public transport and just steps away from the underground station. Communication with the host was excellent – very responsive and helpful.
The studio itself is well-equipped with everything you might need during your stay, from cooking supplies to toiletries – even thoughtful extras like Tampax.
What could be improved: Just a heads-up: this is an attic flat. When the weather is very hot, the space can become unbearably warm, even with the standing fans provided by the host (who clearly cares about guest comfort). Installing air conditioning would make a big difference.

"Disappointing"
Location was good, near Angel station. The balcony also provides some extra space.
What could be improved: This is not a proper apartment.
It is a retrofitted loft in a house with other tenants living in other rooms of the house. There is no elevator. Instead you need to climb three floors through a very narrow spiral staircase which has very narrow steps and is very dangerous, if you have heavy and large suitcases better look elsewhere. The loft has issues with the sink drain which fills the room with an ugly smell which the host tried to cover up with some scented oil sticks making tbe atmosphere stinky and impossible to breathe in. The bed is too small for a couple. During very cold days the two small radiators are not enough to properly heat the space. The bathroom is extremely small and narrow. Lighting is also very poor.

"Good"
Love the rooftop, and the apartment has very nice light and it’s cute. The neighborhood is great. Francesco has been kind and responsive.
What could be improved: The apartment is inside of a parking area in the center of the block and is quite dark and isolated at night , so I didn’t felt safe while arriving home during nights. It’s the last floor with an extremely tight staircase, almost impossible to carry a big suitcase and the building is weird in the basement there is a very untidy kitchen open but does not look as we can use it . The heater was timed to be off during night and I am an early bird so I woke up freezing every day .
