Overview
First Impressions
Alross Guest House with Italian Breakfast sits quietly on Barriedale in Lewisham, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not paying attention. This unique boutique hotel without official star rating doesn’t need flashy signs or marble lobbies — it’s got something better. The moment you step inside, there’s this warm, lived-in feeling that makes you think you’ve stumbled into someone’s well-traveled aunt’s home, if that aunt happened to have impeccable taste and a serious thing for Italian coffee.
The Lewisham Advantage
Look, London accommodation can be brutal on the wallet, but Lewisham? It’s like finding a secret door to the city that doesn’t cost your firstborn. You’re still properly connected — DLR gets you into central London in about 20 minutes — but you get to experience this genuinely local South London vibe. The high street’s got proper character, with independent shops and cafés that locals actually use, not just tourist traps.
Your Room and The Italian Touch
Each room feels individually crafted rather than stamped from a corporate mold. I mean, where else are you going to find vintage Italian travel posters alongside modern amenities that actually work? The beds are surprisingly comfortable — none of that saggy mattress nonsense you sometimes get at boutique places. What really sets this place apart though is the breakfast situation, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’ll ruin hotel breakfasts for you everywhere else.
That Breakfast Though
The Italian breakfast here isn’t some token croissant and espresso situation. We’re talking proper Italian morning rituals — perfectly frothed cappuccinos, fresh cornetti that somehow taste like they were made in a Roman bakery, and this selection of Italian cheeses and cured meats that’ll make you question why you ever thought cereal was an acceptable breakfast. The owner clearly knows their stuff, and you can tell they’ve spent serious time in Italy getting this right.
Why Guests Love It
You know what’s refreshing? A place that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Alross Guest House knows exactly what it is — a thoughtfully run, personally managed spot where the details matter more than the thread count. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense when you realize you’re not paying for unnecessary frills, just really solid hospitality and that breakfast that’ll honestly become the highlight of your London mornings. It’s the kind of place you’ll actually remember fondly, not just because it was decent value, but because it felt real.
Guest reviews
"Ok ,except a bad tenant, who got angry, because he could hear me dictating to my email."
Clean kitchen, all the basics needed.
What could be improved: The room was a bit cold, I wasn't aware that there was a space heater available, right away.

"Very good"
A good option for budget-friendly accommodation in London. The room was clean and matched the description, with all the basic amenities. Great value for money. The area may feel a bit different from central tourist spots, but we felt safe and appreciated the chance to see a less typical side of the city. Overall, a positive experience.
What could be improved: The bathroom is shared, so at times you might need to wait a little. These are not really downsides, just features of this type of accommodation that are good to be aware of in advance.

"It was decent."
The location was good. A 5min walk to the busstop, followed by a 43-48min bus ride to the center of London.
What could be improved: When we entered the room it smelled a little like hair dye or paint so we had to air the room for a bit. The room also felt a little humid or stuffy for the duration of our stay. For our booking breakfast was included and our first morning we had a nice breakfast. Milk, yoghurt, tea, eggs, bacon and toasted bread, perfect. Unfortunately the first few plates and mugs we grabbed from the cabinet were put away still dirty, by other/previous guests, so we had to do the dishes beforehand AND after breakfast.
The second morning there were very few things left and the third morning they had restocked on milk and apple juice was new.

"Superb"
The room was small but cozy and, most importantly, clean, with a comfortable bed, a wardrobe and a small desk. The shared facilities (bathroom + kitchen) were reasonably clean and totally sufficient for my needs. I don't usually have a large breakfast, but there's everything there you might need for one, and I helped myself with cereals and a cup of coffee. On top of everything else, the host Rosy reacted promptly on inquiries and even made sure that I could enter my room two hours in advance. All in all, considering the price, great value for the money and definitely worth a recommendation.
What could be improved: The shower could be cleaned a bit more frequently.

"Considering that our family only uses the apartment during our vacation to freshen up, take a shower, eat, and sleep, ev"
The owners were very friendly, the room was quite spacious, and the bed was soft and comfortable. I would especially praise the breakfast.
What could be improved: Bathroom is really small.

"Great value for money, no frills"
Great location with free street parking directly outside.
Room was spacious and reasonably clean, and the beds were comfortable. Curtains were good at blocking out the morning light.
Breakfast was 'serve-yourself', family-kitchen-style and there was a good selection of basic items. The garden was very pleasant and great for the children.
Overall for the location, facilities and time of year this listing represented great value for money.
What could be improved: It wasn't completely clear from the listing that the bathroom was in a separate room across the hall, and this was just a cloakroom under the stairs with a toilet and shower. It was a little tricky getting the children washed and dressed in such a small room separate to the bedroom whilst other guests were coming down for breakfast. There was hair and grime in the shower tray when we arrived.
