A beautiful and welcoming home and garden
First Impressions
A beautiful and welcoming home and garden honestly lives up to its name in the most genuine way possible. Tucked away on a quiet residential street in London‘s Lambeth area, this four-star property feels more like staying with a well-traveled friend than checking into a typical hotel. The moment you walk up to the Victorian terrace house, you’ll notice the carefully tended front garden — it’s clear someone actually cares about this place.
The Neighborhood Feel
What I love about this spot is how authentically local it feels. You’re in SW2, which means you get that proper South London vibe without the tourist crowds of Central London. There’s a brilliant little café just around the corner on Elm Park that does proper coffee, and you know what — the locals actually chat with you there. The transport links are solid too; Brixton station is close enough that you can get into the city center in about twenty minutes, but far enough that you feel like you’re experiencing real London life.
The Space Itself
The room I stayed in had this wonderful mix of original Victorian features and thoughtful modern touches. High ceilings, big windows that actually open (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and furniture that looks curated rather than bulk-ordered. The bed was properly comfortable — I mean the kind where you don’t wake up with a crick in your neck. There’s also a small kitchenette area that’s genuinely useful if you want to make your own breakfast or store some groceries from the local shops.
The Garden Experience
Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart — that garden they mention in the name isn’t just marketing fluff. It’s this lovely shared space where you can actually sit with your morning coffee or wind down in the evening. I spent a good hour out there just reading, which is something I rarely get to do in London. The hosts have clearly put thought into making it feel peaceful, with proper seating and plants that change with the seasons. It’s sort of like having your own private park in the middle of the city.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you’re after a massive lobby with marble floors and a concierge in uniform, this isn’t your spot. But if you want somewhere that feels genuine and comfortable — somewhere you’d actually want to return to — then you’ll get it. The hosts are present but not hovering, the parking situation is manageable (which is saying something for London), and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve discovered something special rather than just ticked another accommodation off your list. It’s the kind of place that makes you consider extending your stay by a day, just because.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
